First of all Ska is a form of music that started in Jamaica in the late 50s to early 60s by black people. Some of them called themselves �rudeboys�. As a matter of fact here, this is from a book, taken from "The History of Ska" by Brian Rosenthal:

Throughout the 1960's the ghetto areas of Jamaica were filling up with youths looking for work that did not exist. These youths felt excluded and did not share the optimism of early Ska roots. These youths drew group identity as "Rude Boys". Being Rude was a means of being somebody when society was telling you were nobody. The way the Rude Boys danced the ska was different as well: slower with a menacing posture. The rude boys connected with the scofflaws and the underworld, those who lived outside the laws, and this was reflected in the lyric of the music. Ska music once again changed to reflect the mood of the rude with more tension in the bass as opposed to the previous free-walking bass style.

Mija, the whole point of Ska is that it stands for racial unity and the early 60s there were a lot of songs dedicated to Christ also, they�re Christian Rastafarians ya know. A lot of the songs are also political. By the way, if you ever see a rude person sporting checkers on their clothes, the checkers represent racial integration and peace and unity, just so you know. Ska has a lot of deep rooted history. Learn about it before you say things like it�s gay and all white people are going to die.

I saw Jerry Dammers and Terry Hall from the Specials the other night on TV. I was trying to tell my son what it was like 'back in those days' skankin to The Beat, Badmanners an' all the rest. What a fantastic era to be part of. Still got all me records, including Celebrate the Bullet by The Selecter. It seems donkeys years ago now that I was dressed up in me harrington jacket and loafers, with the bluebeat hat that I bought with about eight weeks pocket money. no ska sene here on Cali's centeral Coast. Our high School does have a Jazz/ska band
